Delight and enthral your students with a visit from some native birds of prey. Topics that I am often asked to include in my presentations are:
Birds, flight, native animals, endangered animals, caring for animals or habitat, owls, hawks, eagles, falcons and raptors in general.
Your students will also learn that we have a variety of native raptors and other birds living amongst our homes and suburbs. Older children will learn how to direct a bird rescue and the class will get colour-in pictures of some raptors as a parting gift.
Choose from three formats for your class:
1. Story Time: I will tell the tale of one raptor, how it came to be living with people and not in the wild. There will be a short question time at the end. One bird accompanies me, and Story Time lasts for a total 20 minutes. This is ideal for the younger ones.
2. Encounter: Students learn what makes raptors different to other birds and how they hunt. They see that there are a variety of different raptors. There are reasons why the three birds they see are in captivity. What happened to them, and how can people (like themselves) help? Each session is followed by question time. Session length depends on age of students, though I am flexible:: k-3 = 30min, 4-7 = 45min.
3. Raptor-e-cursion: I’ll arrive in your classroom via your internet connection and projector! There will be video of my raptors doing cool stuff, and I will talk to you “live” and answer questions from your students. This session runs for 30 – 45 minutes. Contact me or sign up for the newsletter to find out when I will run the next free 10min pre-webinar to show you how it works.
